Kyanite, whose name derives from the Greek word kuanos sometimes referred to as “kyanos”, meaning deep blue, is a typically blue silicate mineral, commonly found in aluminum-rich metamorphic pegmatites and/or sedimentary rock. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium)

It is also said to have healing properties. I’m not a gemologist, I just thought that Kyanite was a pretty cool word to describe the music – hard bluesy rock with traces of metal.

Hi, I’m Rick; the founder and guitar player of the Kyanite Captains. It all started when an old friend and band mate of mine contacted me after many years and expressed a desire to start jamming again and maybe record some old originals and some new. Well, that lit a fire under me. I had been removed from the rock scene for many years but decided to give it a shot. So… after writing and arranging the songs, I lined up a recording studio. After searching for months for a lead singer, I finally found one. We rehearsed for several months to prepare for the studio… but a sudden set of circumstances left me having to find another drummer. Thankfully, Matt the studio co-owner stepped up and offered to play the drum tracks.

There we were…Scott (vocalist), Phil (studio owner/engineer), Matt (drummer/studio co-owner) and myself, never having played a note together but ready to go anyway. It’s pretty cool to think that less than a year ago these guys were perfect strangers to me but now, I consider each to be a friend and…I think we churned out something pretty cool. Hope you like it too!

We are happy to announce that we are working with promoter Al Gomes and his company Big Noise!
